So, time has moved on. I have completed the CELTA course and achieved an A grade which I am thrilled about. I have completed a month teaching in a summer school which was, to say the least challenging. I put into practice a lot of my CELTA training; learnt a whole lot more; met some interesting people and realized that I am probably too old and set in my ways for summer school teaching. I didn't join the profession to baby sit truculent teenagers or carry out pastoral duties as well as teach for 6 hours a day. Anyway, it was an experience and I am sure that I am a better person for having done it.
As I write this it is 20 minutes before the 1st August begins and as I am leaving the UK for Slovakia on 23rd August I must seriously begin to organize myself for departing. It is all becoming 'real' and I must quell the feelings of panic I sometimes experience when I contemplate the near future.

Plans

I am starting this diary from the comfort of home as I anticipate the beginning of my journey.  I have visited my new school and the place that will be my home for two years and am both excited and terrified by what the future holds.  Trnava is a beautiful place and there is much for me to explore.  The school where I shall be working is wonderfully in its early years of development and being part of its time of development and growth will be challenging and exciting.  I have a course to finish now, a month of teaching in a summer school and then travel plans to make.  Am I crazy to be driving that far?  Probably.  Am I crazy setting out on this adventure at all?  Probably.  But it is exciting and challenging and it is my time to experience new horizons.  I will leave family and friends reluctantly but I look forward to making new friends and keeping in touch with all of those I care for through the wonders of modern technology.  You are welcome to come along with me as I set out on my adventure.  Keep me company through this blog and feel free to comment if and when you wish.
